tired of spending over 15 minutes to purchase tickets, pick them up, verify id documents on-site and wait hours to go through the gate? gz-sz intercity railway just launched wechat payment system. passengers don’t have to buy tickets in advance now! 

from december 1, passengers on guangzhou-shenzhen intercity railway service are able to hop on a train without buying tickets beforehand. 

 

it takes only 3 seconds to enter into the railway station to get a train, almost like taking metro or bus services, simple and easy. 

the system allows passengers to get a train first, then their fares will be deducted automatically. 

they only need to use wechat or alipay to download and launch a ticketing page, tick a few boxes on a consent form and set up facial recognition for the first time. 

 

 

what’s new? 

 

guangzhou-shenzhen intercity railway service has taken the lead in the country to introduce a mobile payment system. the new system has three features: 

• no id documents required to be read

• no paper ticket needed

• fee deduction when exiting 

 

early this year, we’ve posted an article introducing ticket-free travel with alipay. let’s check it to know more about the service  

 

the newly launched mobile payment system is reportedly based on real-name information and facial recognition verification. 

 

so travelers are able to enter the railway station without any id document after real-name authentication. paper ticket is no longer required. 

 

how to use it? 

• registration
  

search mini-program “广深城际通” in wechat > “立即开通” (open the service) > “允许” (allow to use my phone number) > “开通免密支付” (enable automatic payments) > “同意授权” (agree authorization) 

then you can authorize the mini-program to use your phone number, and allow it deduct fares. 

• id verification
  

 

enter payment password > confirm real-name info > use facial recognition to verify your id

 

 

in this step, you are required to perform face verification to verify your id info. luckily the platform has english instruction. 

 

• registration completed

 

after the verification completed, you are able to use the service. you can open the wechat mini-program “扫码乘车” to let the entrance gate to read and scan your qr code.

apply to foreigners? 

 

according to media reports, hong kong, macao and taiwan residents and foreign friends can use the services. 

but they need to perform real-name verification at the train station with a permit or passport for the first time.

from december 2, foreigners meeting certain conditions can apply for both permits at the counters at the same time and collect them later. 

 

the total process time will be shortened to 7 workdays. 

 

however, it took at least 17 workdays previously. applicants needed to apply for the permits respectively, and the process periods are 10 workdays for work permit and 7 workdays for residence permit.

requirements 

according to media reports, the service applies to category a foreign talents only so far.

before the submission of application documents for permits, you have to do some preparation. 

 

for work permit, you need to apply for it online and get approved first. 

 

for residence permit, you need to take a digital photo and print the application form via self-service printer at the department.

after completing the preparation above, you can submit the application documents for work permit and residence permit at the counters. 

• application approved

then all you need to do is waiting for the approval. 

around 7 workdays later, you can collect the work permit and your passport. express service is also available.

china officially launched a mobile number portability (mnp) program across the country on nov 27. 

 

before the rollout, about 3.16 million subscribers have completed number porting in five pilot provincial-level regions, showed miit data.

the number of chinese border ports that allow eligible international travelers to transit within 144 hours without a visa will increase to 27 from dec 1. 

 

the newly added border ports to the list are chongqing municipality in southwest china, xi’an, capital of northwest shaanxi province, and ningbo in east china’s zhejiang province. 

 

 

the list now includes major cities across china, such as beijing, tianjin, shanghai, hangzhou, qingdao, wuhan and guangzhou.

in order to help enterprises start a business with high efficiency, the state council released a notice recently to fully decouple business licenses from operation permits in the pilot free trade zones (ftz) nationwide. 

operation permits will cover all government approval items relating to business operations with a list-based administrative mode introduced.

high-speed train prices will change on dec 1 with a flexible multi-tier pricing system to improve the transport capacity and efficiency of the railways. 

according to media reports, the published ticket price will be the maximum ticket price with the lowest discount by 45%. 

the price adjustments are based on the changing demand for tickets at different times, and aimed at encouraging passengers to travel during non-rush periods. 

over 400 train services in seven major south-eastern coastal railway bureaus involved this time. the flexible pricing mechanism will be extended to more trains next year.

on aug 26, china enacted the amended pharmaceutical administration law and now it’s finally in force. 

it is notable that the law will ease the restrictions on importing and selling drugs lacking approval from china’s national medical products administration (nmpa). 

 

this means that drugs legally marketable overseas but unapproved in china may be imported for personal use in small quantities. 

 

 

the amendment does not mean that china is ready to relax rules on importing generic drugs. but it’s such good news for anyone who can benefit from access to cheap life-saving drugs from abroad.

 

yuan jie, diretor of the legislative affairs commission of the npc standing commitee, said that imported drugs will no longer be classified as counterfeit drugs but still has to be approved.
